To introduce the ideas and imagination of an avant-garde artist such as Richard Kostelanetz, a link is provided here to a selection of his book  A Dictionary of the Avant-Gardes from Google-books. The preface and introduction clarify and distinguish art that is avant-garde and what is not, but avoid conceptualizing, as difficult as that may seem, which would be misleading or contradictory.
